The SCA purchases insurance through BFL Canada as part of the Cycling Canada Insurance Program. All information, explanations and forms can be found on the Cycling Canada website here:
What Every Member Needs To Know About SCA Insurance and Member Only Options
Who is Insured?
Saskatchewan Cycling Association (SCA), its members, member clubs, teams, volunteers, licensed Commissaires, certified first aid personnel, SCA employees and any additional insured (as indicated on the issued certificate of insurance)
What is Covered?
Saskatchewan Cycling Association sanctioned activities are included in the coverage. These may include (but are not limited to):
- SCA Sanctioned Competitive Events
- SCA Sanctioned Recreational or Social Events
- SCA Sanctioned Club/Team Activities
- SCA Sanctioned Athlete Development Opportunities
- SCA Sanctioned Board/Committee/Member Meetings

*Coverage is secondary to any other existing health care plan(s).
Coverage does not extend to:
- Unsanctioned activities/events by an SCA Member/Member Club/Team, or Non-SCA affiliated group/organizer
- Social Activities involving alcohol
- Liquor liability coverage available through a separate request (at an additional cost)

Sports Liability Insurance
Designed to protect a person/business against legal responsibility arising out of a negligent act or failure to act as a prudent person would have acted to which results in bodily injury or property damage to another party.
Sports Accident Coverage
Sport Accident is medical expense reimbursement coverage, excess of provincial health care, to help pay for medical expenses incurred as a result of an injury sustained during cycling activity.
Trail Maintenance Insurance Coverage
Not covered under core insurance program. Separate trail maintenance insurance coverage is available for an additional fee – Contact SCA Office
Liquor Liability
Not covered under core insurance program. Separate liquor liability coverage is available for an additional fee – Contact SCA Office

Reporting An Injury – Step by Step Guide
1. Immediately after an incident, submit an SCA Incident Report Form
- Can be submitted by a Club Director, Ride Leader, Parent/Guardian, Team Manager, Organizer, First Responder or Injured Athlete
- Must be submitted immediately after incident (SCA must file with insurance provider within 30 days)
2. Have medical expenses as a result of an incident during a sanctioned activity? Fill out the BFL Sport Accident Claim Form.
Claim form must be filed within 90 days of incident.
- Only medical expenses which occurred in Canada are covered, and coverage is applicable after Provincial Health Care Coverage (Ex. SaskHealth) and any existing medical benefit policy the member has access to has been exhausted.
- Even if you have the above coverage items, it is recommended to submit an accident claim form within the 90-day period to ensure outstanding medical expenses may be eligible to be claimed.
3. Please provide the completed Sport Accident Claim Form (Including Physician’s Statement) to BFL.

4. A representative from the insurance company will reach out to the injured member.
- Someone from the insurance company will reach out to the injured member for next steps (usually within 5-10 business days).
