Saskatchewan Cycling is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 BMX District Point’s winners. Out of 25 District races this season, these individuals rose to the top.
First up, our 2019 Challenge Female Overall Points Leader is Globe BMX member, Savannah Weslowski.
In the words of her mom Tara: “This is Savannah’s second year of racing. She enjoys the friends she has made in BMX as well as winning races and improving her skills. Some of her other interests include ringette, swimming, rollerblading, hanging with friends, reading, going to the lake and time with here in the city with family.”
Next, our 2019 Challenge Male Overall Points Leader is Globe BMX member, Landen Hiebert.
In the words of his Mom Courtney: “Landen has ridden at the track since we came across it when the track was mentioned at motocross and we have never looked back! There he was, a kid in kindergarten wanting to go fast and he indeed got faster. I believe Mike Hart nicknamed Landen speedy when he about 7. Landen is now 11 and has travelled to South Carolina for World Championships and to Alberta so many times we have lost track. Besides BMX, Landen loves to play basketball and stunting on the track on his regular BMX bike – not to mention race his dirt bike! Landen has a sweet little sister named Skylar who he also watches over as he is a great big brother. His biggest fan is his me, his mom, but that little Skylar wants to be just like him. Watch out Landen that little unicorn is coming for ya one day!.”
Up next, our 2019 Cruiser Female Overall Points Leader, and repeat champion, is Globe BMX member, Samara Stevens.
In her own words: “This is my second year riding. I started racing once Chase was big enough to pedal on his own and I figured instead of running the track behind him that I might as well get a bike of my own. My favorite part of BMX’ing is the community!! It is just such an amazing experience and I love every minute of it!! I am sooo very grateful for every single person that I’ve encountered over my years at the track, it’s like one big happy family! When not at the track, I love spending time doing virtually anything with my family, cooking/baking, and being outdoors!”
Last but certainly not least, our 2019 Cruiser Male Overall Points Leader is Globe BMX member and Coach, Chris Gurney.
In his own words: “I started racing BMX in 2017. My daughter and I were looking for an activity that we could do together and she challenged me start racing with her. Tough to resist when your daughter throws down the gauntlet. My favourite part of racing is the people and the friendly banter in the gate. Other activities I enjoy include building mountain bike trails and shredding them with my friends. Special thanks to Globe BMX for running such an amazing club. ”
Congratulations to our award winners once again and thank you to all of the participants and volunteers that made this series possible.
